The following is the chanting text that we currently use for our Pūjā, as of 2025. We also have a long-form version of our Pūjā book, known as the Nava Pūjā, composed by Ven. S. Dhammika in 2010. It is available in hardcopy at the Buddha Dhamma Mandala Society premises. 


OPENING CHANTS

Vandanā || Homage to the Buddha || 礼敬佛陀

Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammāsaṃbuddhassa (3x)

Homage to the Lord, the Noble one, the fully enlightened Buddha.

Pañca Sīla || Five Precepts || 五戒

Pānātipāta veramani sikkhāpadam samādiyāmi.

We take the precept to abstain from killing. (We will act for the welfare and happiness of all beings.)

我致力于遵守杀生戒。(我致力于为一切众生的福祉和幸福而行动)

Adinnadāna veramani sikkhāpadam samādiyāmi.

We take the precept to abstain from stealing. (We will be generous, open-handed and take delight in sharing.)

我致力于遵守不予而取(偷盗)戒。(我致力于慷慨,施舍,乐于助人)

Kamesu micchacara veramani sikkhāpadam samādiyāmi.

We take the precept to abstain from sexual misconduct. (We will care for the body, keeping it pure in all ways.)

我致力于遵守邪淫戒。(我致力于照顾身体,保持身体各方面的纯净)

Musāvādā veramani sikkhāpadam samādayāmi.

We take the precept to abstain from lying. (We will speak the truth, words mild, pleasant and noble.)

我致力于遵守不妄语戒。(我致力于说真话、言语温和、愉快、高尚)

Surā-meraya-majja-pamādatthāna veramani sikkhāpadam samādiyami.

We take the precept to abstain from intoxicating drinks and drugs. (We will care for the mind, keeping it pure, alert and unconfused.)

我致力于遵守不饮酒戒。(我致力于照顾心,保持清净警觉、不迷惑)


Praise of the Triple Gem

Iti'pi so bhagavā arahaṃ
sammā-sambuddho
vijjā-carana sampanno
Sugato
Loka-vidū
Anuttaro purisa-damma-sāratī
satthā deva-manussānaṃ
Buddho 
Bhagavā ti

Such indeed is the Lord,
A Noble One, a fully enlightened Buddha,
With perfect knowledge and conduct,
Happily attained,
A knower of the worlds,
Guide unsurpassed of those to be tamed,
A teacher of gods and humans,
A Buddha,
The Lord

Ye ca Buddhā atītā ca,
ye ca Buddhā anāgatā,
paccuppannā ca ye Buddhā,

The Buddhas of the ages past,
The Buddhas who are yet to come,

Happily faring are the Lord’s disciples,
Straightforwardly faring are the Lord’s disciples,
Correctly faring are the Lord’s disciples,
Methodically faring are the Lord’s disciples,

Yadidaṁ cattāri purisayugāni
aṭṭha purisapuggalā
esa bhagavato sāvakasaṅgho
āhuneyyo
pāhuneyyo
dakkhiṇeyyo
añjalikaraṇīyo
anuttaraṁ puññakkhettaṁ lokassā’ti

Namely the four pairs of persons,
The eight individuals.
These disciples of the Lord are
Worthy of offerings,
Hospitality,
Gifts
And salutation with folded hands.
They are an incomparable source of goodness in the world.

paccuppannā ca ye Saṅghā,

The Sanghas of the ages past,
The Sanghas who are yet to come,
The Sanghas of the present age,

Primary Offerings

With these lights brightly burning,
dispelling all darkness,
we worship the fully enlightened Buddha,
the light of the triple world.

By offering these lights,
may the path be free from darkness,
and may our hearts and minds
be always pure and bright.

We offer these flowers,
fresh, fragrant and beautiful,
at the Buddha's
lotus-like feet.

By offering these flowers,
may we realize the truth of impermanence,
which destroys all craving,
and cuts all bonds.

With this fragrant incense,
prepared from sweet things,
we worship the Exalted One,
who is worthy of respect and honour.

By offering this fragrance
prepared for the Tathagatha,
may the perfume of virtue
spread always and everywhere.

Special Offering (1st Sunday of the month)

By offering this clean and well-prepared food,
to the fully enlightened Buddha,
may all beings be nourished
and their hunger allayed.

By offering this water,
fresh, clean and cool,
may the minds of all beings,
be washed of impurities.

By offering this medicine,
that removes all sickness,
may all beings be cured,
and abide in perfect health.

The Purification

If, by body, speech or mind,
I have carelessly done wrong,
may I be forgiven,
O Tathagatha of great wisdom.

By acknowledging my transgressions
with openness and honesty
before the Buddha most wise,
may my mind be always pure.


If, by body, speech or mind,
others have done me wrong,
I forgive them everything now,
before the fully enlightened Buddha.

Through my readiness to forgive,
may they be safe and free from sorrow,
and may my each and every thought
be filled with kindness and love.

If, by body, speech or mind,
I have done others good,
I gladly share my merit with all,
before the fully enlightened Buddha.

With a mind free from pride,
I rejoice in my own good deeds,
wishing that all beings everywhere
may share in my happiness.

CLOSING CHANTS

(Either of the Karaṇīya Mettā Sutta or the Ratana Sutta)

Karaṇīya Mettā Sutta || Discourse on Loving-Kindness || 慈经

“Karaṇīya mattha kusalena,
Yaṁ taṁ santaṁ padaṁ abhisamecca;
Sakko ujū ca sūjū ca,
Sūvaco c’assa mudu anatimānī.

This is what should be done by one skilled in good and who wishes to attain that peaceful state. They should be able, straightforward, very straightforward, easy to speak to, flexible and not proud.

对于证知了寂静的境界,善于利益者应当做的是:堪能、正直与端正,易受劝、柔和、不骄慢。

Santussako ca subharo ca,
Appakicco ca sallahukavutti;
Santindriyo ca nipako ca,
Appagabbho kulesu ananugiddho

Contented and easily supported, with few duties and living in simplicity, with sense faculties calmed, ardent, and not greedy with families.

知足与容易护持,少事务与生活简朴,寂静诸根与明智,不鲁莽与不贪着诸俗人家。

Na ca khuddaṁ samācare kiñci,
Yena viññū pare upavadeyyuṁ;
Sukhino vā khemino hontu,
Sabbe sattā bhavantu sukhitattā

They should do no mean thing that others might criticize and they should think, “May all beings be happily secured and happily minded”.

凡其他智者会指责的,即使是小事也不做。愿一切有情快乐与安稳,愿他们自得其乐!

Ye keci pāṇa bhūtatthi,
Tasā vā thāvarā vā anavasesā;
Dīghā vā ye mahantā vā,
Majjhimā rassa kāṇuka thūlā

“Whatever creatures there are, moving or still, tall, middle sized or short, small or great, without exception”.

凡是有息的生类,脆弱的或稳固的尽无遗,长的、大的或中的,短的、小的或粗的。

Diṭṭhā vā ye va adiṭṭhā,
Ye ca dūre vasanti avidūre;
Bhūtā va sambhavesī vā,
Sabbe sattā bhavantu sukhitattā.

“The seen or the unseen, whether living near or far, existing or not yet come into being, let all creatures be happy”.

无论已见或未见的,住在远的或近的,已生的或寻求出生的,愿一切有情自得其乐!

Na paro paraṁ nikubbetha,
Nātimaññetha katthacinaṁ kañci
Byārosanā paṭighasañña,
Nāñña maññassa dukkhamiccheyya

One should not harm another or despise anyone for any reason anywhere. Do not wish pain upon another out of either anger or repugnance.

当不要有人欺骗他人;不要轻视任何地方的任何人;当不要以愤怒与厌恶想,而彼此希望对方受苦。

Mātā yathā niyaṁ puttaṁ
Āyusā eka putta manurakkhe;
Evampi sabba bhūtesu,
Mānasaṁ bhāvaye aparimāṇaṁ.

Just as a mother would protect her only child even at the risk of her own life; even so, one should cultivate unbounded love towards all beings in the world.

正如母亲对待自己的儿子,会以生命来保护唯一的儿子;应当如此对一切生类,修习无量的心。

Mettañca sabba lokasmiṁ,
Mānasaṁ bhāvaye aparimāṇaṁ;
Uddhaṁ adho ca tiriyañca,
Asambādhaṁ averaṁ asapattaṁ.

A mind unbounded, above, below, across, without obstruction, without hatred, and without rivalry.

应当以慈爱对一切世界,修习无量的心,上方、下方及横方,无障碍、无怨恨、无敌对。

Tiṭṭhaṁ caraṁ nisinno vā,
Sayāno vā yāvat’assa vigata middho
Etaṁ satiṁ adhiṭṭheyya,
Brahma metaṁ vihāraṁ idhamāhu

And whether standing, walking, sitting or lying down, so long as one is free from drowsiness one should practice mindfulness. This, they say, is the highest conduct here.

无论站着、行走、坐着或躺着,只要他离开睡眠,都能决意此慈念,这被称为在此的梵住。

Diṭṭhiñca anupaggamma, sīlavā,
Dassanena sampanno;
Kāmesu vineyya gedhaṁ,
Nahi jātu gabbhaseyyaṁ punaretī ti.

Not to hold wrong views, to be virtuous and endowed with insight, and having overcome greed for desires, such a person is not born again.

以及不堕入邪见,持戒,具足智见,调伏对诸欲的贪爱,确定不再卧母胎中。

Ratana Sutta || Discourse on the Jewels

Yānīdha bhūtāni samāgatāni,
Bhummāni vā yāni va antalikkhe;
Sabbeva bhūtā sumanā bhavantu,
Athopi sakkacca suṇantu bhāsitaṁ.

Whatever beings that are here assembled, whether terrestrial or celestial, may every being be happy and joyful! And also, listen attentively to my words.

Tasmā hi bhūtā nisāmetha sabbe,
Mettaṁ karotha mānusiyā pajāya;
Divā ca ratto ca haranti ye baliṁ,
Tasmā hi ne rakkhatha appamattā.

Listen here, all beings! Shower your loving-kindness to those humans who, day and night, bring offerings to you. Therefore, guard them diligently.

Yaṁ kiñci vittaṁ idha vā huraṁ vā,
Saggesu vā yaṁ ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ;
Na no samaṁ atthi tathāgatena,
Idampi buddhe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ;
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.

Whatever treasures there may be, either here or in the world beyond, or whatever precious jewels there are in the heavens;  yet none is comparable to the Enlightened One. In the Buddha is this precious jewel found. On account of this truth, may there be well-being!

Khayaṁ virāgaṁ amataṁ paṇītaṁ,
Yadajjhagā sakyamunī samāhito;
Na tena dhammena samatthi kiñci,
Idampi dhamme ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ;
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.

The tranquil Sage of the Sakyas  realized cessation, freedom from passion,  deathlessness and excellence.  There is nothing comparable to this Dhamma.  In the Dhamma is this precious jewel found. On account of this truth, may there be well-being!

Yaṁ buddhaseṭṭho parivaṇṇayī suciṁ,
Samādhimānantarikaññamāhu;
Samādhinā tena samo na vijjati,
Idampi dhamme ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ;
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.

That pure concentration the Supreme Buddha praised is described as ‘concentration without interruption’. There is nothing like that concentration. In the Dhamma is this precious jewel found. On account of this truth, may there be well-being!

Ye puggalā aṭṭha sataṁ pasatthā,
Cattāri etāni yugāni honti;
Te dakkhiṇeyyā sugatassa sāvakā,
Etesu dinnāni mahapphalāni;
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ,
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.

Those eight individuals constituting four pairs, they are praised by those at peace. They, worthy of offerings, are the disciples of the Enlightened One, Gifts given to them yield abundant fruit. In the Sangha is this precious jewel found. On account of this truth, may there be well-being!

Ye suppayuttā manasā daḷhena,
Nikkāmino gotamasāsanamhi;
Te pattipattā amataṁ vigayha,
Laddhā mudhā nibbutiṁ bhuñjamānā;
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ,
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.

With steadfast mind, applying themselves thoroughly in the Dispensation of Gotama, free of passion, they have attained to that which should be attained. And plunging into deathlessness, they enjoyed the Peace (Nibbāna) in absolute freedom. In the Sangha is this precious jewel found. On account of this truth, may there be well-being!

Yathindakhīlo pathavissito siyā,
Catubbhi vātehi asampakampiyo;
Tathūpamaṁ sappurisaṁ vadāmi,
Yo ariyasaccāni avecca passati;
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ,
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.

Just as a firm post sunk in the earth cannot be shaken by the four winds; I say that a righteous person who thoroughly perceives the Noble Truths is similar to that. In the Sangha is this precious jewel found. On account of this truth, may there be well-being!

Ye ariyasaccāni vibhāvayanti,
Gambhīrapaññena sudesitāni;
Kiñcāpi te honti bhusaṁ pamattā,
Na te bhavaṁ aṭṭhamamādiyanti;
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ,
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.

Those who clearly understand the Noble Truths, well taught by Him who has profound wisdom, do not undergo an eighth birth, no matter how exceedingly heedless they may be. In the Sangha is this precious jewel found. On account of this truth, may there be well-being!

Sahāvassa dassanasampadāya,
Tayassu dhammā jahitā bhavanti;
Sakkāyadiṭṭhī vicikicchitañca,
Sīlabbataṁ vāpi yadatthi kiñci.
Catūhapāyehi ca vippamutto,
Chaccābhiṭhānāni abhabba kātuṁ;
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ,
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.

Together with his attainment of insight, three qualities have been abandoned (by him), namely: wrong belief in selfhood, doubt and dependence on rites and ceremonies. He is absolutely freed from the four states of misery, and is incapable of committing the six major wrong doings. In the Sangha is this precious jewel found. On account of this truth, may there be well-being!

Kiñcāpi so kamma karoti pāpakaṁ,
Kāyena vācā uda cetasā vā;
Abhabba so tassa paṭicchadāya,
Abhabbatā diṭṭhapadassa vuttā;
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ,
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.

He is incapable of hiding whatever evil he does, whether by deed, word or thought; for it has been said that such an act is impossible for one who has seen the Path. In the Sangha is this precious jewel found. On account of this truth, may there be well-being!

Vanappagumbe yatha phussitagge,
Gimhānamāse paṭhamasmiṁ gimhe;
Tathūpamaṁ dhammavaraṁ adesayi,
Nibbānagāmiṁ paramaṁ hitāya;
Idampi buddhe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ,
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.

Just like a forest crown in full blossom, in the first month of the summer season, so has the sublime doctrine that leads to Nibbāna been taught for the highest good (of beings). In the Buddha is this precious jewel found. On account of this truth, may there be well-being!

Varo varaññū varado varāharo,
Anuttaro dhammavaraṁ adesayi;
Idampi buddhe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ,
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.

The peerless Excellent One, the Knower, the Giver, the Bringer of the Excellent, has expounded the sublime doctrine. In the Buddha is this precious jewel found. On account of this truth, may there be well-being!

Khīṇaṁ purāṇaṁ nava natthi sambhavaṁ,
Virattacittāyatike bhavasmiṁ;
Te khīṇabījā avirūḷhichandā,
Nibbanti dhīrā yathāyaṁ padīpo;
Idampi saṅghe ratanaṁ paṇītaṁ,
Etena saccena suvatthi hotu.

Their past is extinct, a new becoming there is not, their minds are not attached to a future birth, their desires do not grow; those wise ones with their seeds of becoming destroyed, go out even as this lamp does. In the Sangha is this precious jewel found. On account of this truth, may there be well-being!

Yānīdha bhūtāni samāgatāni,
Bhummāni vā yāni va antalikkhe;
Tathāgataṁ devamanussapūjitaṁ,
Buddhaṁ namassāma suvatthi hotu.

[ Sakka’s exultation: ] We beings that are here assembled, whether terrestrial or celestial, salute the Accomplished Buddha, who is honoured by gods and men. May there be well-being!

Yānīdha bhūtāni samāgatāni,
Bhummāni vā yāni va antalikkhe;
Tathāgataṁ devamanussapūjitaṁ,
Dhammaṁ namassāma suvatthi hotu.

Etena saccavajjena sotthi te hotu sabbadā!
Etena sacca vajjena sabba rogo vinassatu!
Etena sacca vajjena hotu te jayamangalaṃ!

By the power of these words of truth, may you be secured and protected!
By the power of these words of truth, may you be healthy!
By the power of these words of truth, may joyous victory be yours!

Bhavatu sabba-maṅgalaṁ
Rakkhantu sabba-devatā
Sabba-buddhānubhāvena
Sadā sotthī bhavantu te.

May all blessings be given you. May all devas protect you. By the power of all Buddhas, may security ever be yours.

Dedication of merits to the deities (1)

Ākāsaṭṭhā ca bhummaṭṭhā
devā nāgā mahiddhikā
Puññaṃ taṃ anumoditvā
ciraṃ rakkhantu sāsanaṃ.

May all beings in the universe, gods and great creatures, rejoice in this merit, and long may they protect the Dispensation.

Ākāsaṭṭhā ca bhummaṭṭhā
devā nāgā mahiddhikā
Puññaṃ taṃ anumoditvā
ciraṃ rakkhantu desanaṃ.

May all beings in the universe, gods and great creatures, rejoice in this merit, and long may they protect the Teaching.

Dedication of merits to the deities (2)

Ettāvatā ca amhehi 
Sambhataṁ puñña-sampadaṁ
Sabbe devā anumodantu 
Sabba-sampatti-siddhiyā. 

May all gods share this good which we have thus accumulated so that they may experience all happiness and prosperity.

Dedication of merit to departed relatives

Idam me ñātinam hotu, sukhitā hontu ñātayo (3x)

Let my/our relatives benefit from this, and may they be happy.

Verse on spreading mettā to all sentient beings

Dukkhappattā ca nidukkhā
Bhayappattā ca nibhayā
Sokappattā ca nisokā
Hontu sabbe’pi pāṇino

May the suffering-stricken be free from suffering; may the fear-stricken be free from fear; may the grief-stricken by free from grief; may all beings be so.

Dhammapada Verses 1 and 2 法句经

Manopubbaṅgamā dhammā, manoseṭṭhā manomayā;
Manasā ce paduṭṭhena, bhāsati vā karoti vā;
Tato naṁ dukkhamanveti, cakkaṁ va vahato padaṁ.

All things are preceded by mind, mind comes first, they are made of mind. If one speaks or acts with a negative mind, suffering follows, as the wheel of the cart follows the foot of the ox.

諸法意先導,意主意造作。
若以染污意,或語或行業,
是則苦隨彼,如輪隨獸足 。

Manopubbaṅgamā dhammā, manoseṭṭhā manomayā;
Manasā ce pasannena, bhāsati vā karoti vā;
Tato naṁ sukhamanveti, chāyā va anapāyinī.

All things are preceded by mind, mind comes first, they are made of mind. If one speaks or acts with a positive mind, happiness follows, like a never-departing shadow.

諸法意先導,意主意造作。
若以清淨意,或語或行業,
是則樂隨彼,如影不離形。


Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice!
善哉!善哉!善哉!
