Primary Offerings

5    Ghana sārappadittena
      dīpena tamadhaṃsinā
      tiloka dīpaṁ sambuddhaṁ
      pūjayāmi tamonudaṁ

      With these lights brightly burning,
      dispelling all darkness,
      I/we worship the fully enlightened Buddha,
      the light of the triple world.

      Imāya dīpapūjāya
      maggo hotu hato tamo
      cittañ ca me sadā hotu
      parisuddhaṁ pabhassaraṁ

      By offering these lights,
      may the path be free from darkness,
      and may my/our heart(s) and mind(s)
      be always pure and bright.

      Vaṇṇa gandha guṇopetaṁ
      etaṁ kusuma santatiṁ
      pūjayāmi munindassa
      sirīpāda saroruhe
      
      I/we offer these flowers,
      fresh, fragrant and beautiful,
      at the Buddha's
      lotus-like feet.

      Imāya pupphapūjāya
      saccaṁ paṭilabhaṁ 'ahaṁ
      paṭividdhaṁ aniccataṁ
      taṇhā bandhana chedanaṁ

      By offering these flowers,
      may I/we realize the truth of impermanence,
      which destroys all craving,
      and cuts all bonds.

      Gandha sambhāra yuttena
      dhūpenā 'haṁ sugandhinā
      pūjaye pūjaneyyaṁ taṁ
      pūja bhājana muttamaṁ

      With this fragrant incense,
      prepared from sweet things,
      I/we worship the Exalted One,
      who is worthy of respect and honour.

      Sugandhikāya pūjāya
      katā 'yevaṁ tathāgate
      sīlagandho 'va sabbesaṁ
      sadā sabbattha vāyatu

      By offering this fragrance
      prepared for the Tathagatha,
      may the perfume of virtue
      spread always and everywhere.
